Barwon Health has relesed the COVID-19 stats for the first half of the year with 121 local residents dying from the disease, and more than 1,000 hospitalised.
Those figures don’t tell the full story, however, with more than 100,000 covid cases in six months, meaning the ratio of people who die after testing positively is much lower.
Locally, numbers have started to show an increase over the past two days with concerns it’s related to the lifting of restrictions one week ago.
Daily case numbers had been hovering around the 300 – 400 mark for the past three weeks, but in recent days the case numbers started approaching 600, while active cases also continues to grow, up to 2,504 as of Thursday.
