HARRY Benson will trial a helmet at training this week ahead of a possible return from a broken jaw in St Mary’s clash with Grovedale at Burdoo Reserve on Saturday.

The reigning Mathieson medalist has been sidelined since suffering a broken jaw in the Round 11 win over Newtown & Chilwell following a collision with Matt McMahon.

Benson took part in a non-contact match simulation last week and hopes to progress this week to play against the Tigers and get in at least two matches before finals.

“I’ve got a helmet ready this week, so I’m going to train in that with a bit of contact, hopefully,” he told Geelong Broadcasters

“If all goes well, I’ll be out there next week.”
