Leopold fell agonisingly short of snatching third spot from Newtown & Chilwell despite beating North Shore by 59 points at Windsor Park.
The Lions were left to rue some inaccuracy in front of goal, winning 17.20 (122) to 9.9 (63), to finish 1.55% behind the Eagles.
Mitch Patten kicked three goals to take his season tally to 55 – six goals clear of South Barwon’s Andrew Boseley, who has one home-and-away game left to play.
Marcus Thompson is likely to have added to his Mathieson Medal vote tally after another eye-catching performance.
Big man Kobe Annand and midfield trio Noah Lever, Brad Gerrard and Nick Dixon tried hard for the Seagulls.
