Close to 100 locals scored themselves a bucket or ‘barrow full of free compost as part of a City of Greater Geelong initiatve.
The city turns 35,000 tonnes of garden bin collections in to high quality compost.
Compost can be purchased any time from locations on Lara, Moolap, Wallington and Torquay, but occasionally the City will offer up compost for free.
A facillity in Anakie uses “open-windrow technology” to transform the garden waste into humus rich compost with stabilised nutriants
Watch the process below
The compost is also used in city parks and local farms.
