Aussie Spin Sensation Todd Murphy is set for a stint in England’s county cricket

Likened to Harry Potter, the bespectacled bowler has been a star in Australia’s otherwise dull performance in India

Murphy took an astonishing 7 wickets on debut in Australia’s only bowling efforts in the first test, including the prized scalps of KL Rahul, Cheteshwar Pujara and Virat Kohli.

The Guardian has reported Murphy will join Durham for a brief stint ahead of Australia’s Ashes campaign which kicks off in June.

Steve Smith (Sussex) and Marnus Labuschagne (Glamorgan) have also signed deals to play in England before the world’s most-watched Test Series.

Australia selector Tony Dodemaide said any length of stint would be beneficial for Murphy.

“It’s a new set of conditions for him but he wants to learn, he wants to be an all-conditions player as any young player would. That could be a great experience for him.”

“I played county experience myself and it rounds out your experiences as long as your body holds up.”

Murphy may also make an appearance in the squad, and perhaps in the First XI for Australia in the World Test Championship Final.

Australia is still no certainty of making the World Test Championship Final however, if India wins the last two tests, Australia could be knocked out depending on the results of other test series’ across the globe.
