A lacklustre South Australia has crumbled after being set a mammoth target for victory in their Sheffield Sheild clash with Victoria.
After being dismissed inside 60 overs, Victoria bounced back in the field to bowl out the Redbacks for 114, taking first innings points by 55 runs.
The Vics would then add to their lead with an inspiring knock of 119 by Man of the Match Matt Short, while the runs flowed down the lower order with 4 in the bottom half scoring at least 20 runs.
Set 367 for an unlikely victory, South Australia were in strife early on Day 3 at 2-4, after openers Henry Hunt ( ) and Jake Carder (4) were back in the sheds before the third over.
Daniel Drew (38) and Ben Manenti (82) gave the visitors some hope, but with wickets tumbling around them, Victoria secured the victory within three days.
Mitchell Perry picked up his first ever five-for with impressive figures of 5/64 of 17.3, backing up his first innings figures of 3/56 off 18
Victoria sits second on the table with 24 points behind Western Australia (34), while it’s a tight tussle for third with South Australia, Queensland and Tasmania all tied on 23 points.
The Vics face the bottom of the table New South Wales Blues next Thursday, before wrapping up the season with a scintillating final match against Western Australia, with the winner likely to take top spot and secure a home final.
