The time-honoured tradition of kick-to-kick after the final siren at Kardinia Park will return after a COVID sidelining.

The Herald Sun reports kids will be allowed back on the ground after select Geelong home games on the hallowed turf of K Park, as well as other AFL matches at Docklands Stadium and the MCG.

Kids will be allowed on the field of play after the final siren at 11 matches during the first 16 rounds of the season, with more expected to be revealed when the AFL firms up its “floating fixture” for games later in the year.

AFL executive Kylie Rogers said it would allow fans to connect with our great game.

“It will provide fans young and old with a unique opportunity to experience our game on the hallowed turf at venues across the country,” Ms Rogers said.

“There’s nothing better than running out onto the field and having a kick to kick with your friends and family, so I’d encourage all fans to get involved … and create your own memorable footy moments.’’
