As people across the state open their wallets for the Royal Children’s Hospital Good Friday Appeal, one local fundraiser is hoping to build on last year’s record-breaking community efforts
The Torquay Lions Club is hoping to surpass $30,000 after raising $23,000 last year.
In his 9th year working with the Appeal, Peter McMahon has set himself the challenge to continually beat the year before.
Not only does the amount raised each year increase, so to does awareness of Mr McMahon’s plight, and the number of volunteers helping shake tins.
Last year volunteers from the local Deakin campus, the Grovedale CFA and the RSL helped out, and this year the growing Armstrong Creek community will join in the Appeal, fundraising for the first time, with up to 60,000 people supporting the Torquay tin shake.
“If we achieve (the $30,000 target) it will be a fantastic effort and it will reflect very well on the local community and particularly the business community for their support”
“We have a BBQ, another fundraising day so I’m very confident”
