A Police in Schools program is teaching local kids all about bike safety.

Leading Senior Constables Karina Richmond and Noah Beasley attended Chilwell Primary School to teach a six week course about basic road safety skills.

The program also improves kids’ confidence on bikes, as well as highlighting the importance of wearing helmets.

After the six-week course, a final test is conducted by teachers alongside the Barwon River

Leading Senior Constable Richmond said the confidence and growth the kids have shown has been “phenomenal to watch”.

“A few kids were initially unable to ride bikes or have the confidence to ride on the shared paths but now they’re able to complete the end of the Barwon River ride,”

“Moments like that is why, you do the community engagement – positive engagement and role modelling!”
